1. Water is treated as a resource

Water is one of the most important resources on a farm, which is why we’ve built our production around making the most of what nature provides. At our farm, we aim to run year-round production using only collected rainwater.

Every drop that falls on our greenhouses is captured through a network of channels and directed through pipes into our rainwater harvesting tanks. The collected water is then used throughout the year for our flower production, allowing us to grow without drawing on or depleting natural water resources. It’s a simple, circular system that helps us make every drop count.

We’re also transitioning our farm towards table growing, a system that gives us much greater control over how our plants are grown and the resources they require. By growing on raised tables rather than directly in the ground, we can carefully control every input, from water and fertilisation to the nutrients the plants receive and minimise what is released back into the surrounding environment. Water that passes through the growing system is collected, filtered and returned to our tanks for reuse, creating a more efficient closed-loop system.

This shift has already made a significant difference to our farm. Our productivity has increased by around 30–40%, while our requirements for labour, water and fertilisation have reduced by nearly 50%. For us, table growing is proving to be a more productive way to grow flowers while also making better use of the resources we rely on.

2. Waste is reduced where possible

The principle is straightforward: grow thoughtfully, use resources carefully and avoid treating everything left behind as disposable.

That mindset carries through to the final product too. Rather than treating flowers as standardised commodities, Urth embraces seasonal variation and the individual character of its blooms.

3. Seasonal flowers are allowed to be seasonal

One of the less obvious benefits of a closer relationship with growing is being able to appreciate flowers for what they are — living, seasonal products rather than perfectly uniform manufactured goods.
