Areca Palm

Dypsis lutescens, also known commonly as 'Areca palm' is a popular houseplant due to its attractive long feathery leaves arch upward. The fronds are pinnate that they are arranged along a central stem and have numerous leaflets that grow in a feather like pattern. This houseplant is widely used in landscaping due to its attractive appearance and low-maintanance requirements.

Plant care
- Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. But too much direct sun can scrotch the leaves
- Water the plant thoroughly when the top 1-2 inch of the soil feel dry to touch, but do not let the soil waterlogged
- Fertilize the plant with balanced water-soluble fertilizer once a month during growing seasons
- Remove any yellow, brown or damaged leaves as they appear.
- Repotting is not required as the plant prefers slightly to be root-bound.

- Yellowing/browning of leaves: This can be due to overwatering/underwatering
- Wilting/drooping of leaves: This indicates underwatering, check the soil moisture level and adjust the water schedule accordingly
- Brown edges of leaves: This is due to overfertilization
- Stunted growth: This can be due to insufficient sunlight and nutrients
- Pest and disease: The plant is susceptible to pests, check regularly and treat it with appropriate pesticide
